# Weak independent episode #India’s Got Latent #Weak Independent women joke #Sharon Verma #Weak Independent women meaning #Weak independent woman
Originally from Bihar and now based in Bandra, Mumbai, Verma gained widespread attention after her viral appearance on India’s Got Latent, a YouTube-based comedy talent show hosted by comedian Samay Raina. The show pokes fun at “undeniably entertaining latent talents” while also testing contestants’ self-awareness, with judges like Vipul Goyal, Sonali Thakker, and Nishant Tanwar in tow.
We’ve all heard the phrase “strong, independent woman.” It’s plastered across Instagram captions, feminist merch, and corporate self-help seminars. But for stand-up comedian Sharon Verma, the pressure to live up to that ideal felt a bit much. So instead, she turned it into comedy and declared herself a “weak, independent woman.” The internet hasn’t stopped laughing (and nodding in agreement) since.
She stole the show was her now-iconic bit:
“Strong, independent woman main ban nahi paa rahi hoon.”
(I’m not able to become a strong, independent woman.)
“Generational wealth thi nahi mere paas toh banna pada independent. Aur I’m just at that point ki main kisi bhi point pe dependent ho sakti hoon.”
(I didn’t have generational wealth, so I had to become independent. But now I’m at a point where I could become dependent again at any moment.)
The joke landed like a thunderclap ,not just because it was funny, but because it hit close to home and no one mentions it as its painfully honest.
She flips the aspirational “strong woman” trope on its head by calling herself “weak,” not in defeat but in raw self-awareness. It catches you off guard, especially when delivered with her deadpan expression.
But beyond the laughs, the line resonates with a generation that’s constantly juggling independence, financial pressure, and emotional burnout. For many ,especially women being independent isn’t always a choice; it’s a necessity. As Verma puts it, when there’s no generational wealth or support system, you just have to figure it out. And that’s exhausting. In a world of gender disparity, still a lot of women are expected to work without rest and juggle with everything all at once.
Since the clip went viral, social media has been flooded with love for Sharon. Comments range from “She said what we’re all thinking” to “This reel came 30 times on my feed and I still laugh every time.” Even Sharon herself seemed stunned, writing on Instagram, “I just wanted to go up there and do well… It feels surreal.”
In a time when comedy often dances between activism and performance, Sharon Verma’s bit reminds us of the power of vulnerability and how being hilariously honest might just be the strongest thing of all.
